DECISION…it is that one act that dictates the pattern of changes that will transpire in our lives. As we grow up, the people around us, our parents most especially, try to as much as possible ensure that we will be ready to take the CHALLENGE OF MAKING DECISIONS IN LIFE.

Reality is that not all of us become prepared in facing decision-making events in life. Either we were not prepared or we failed to become prepared. In such case, decision making becomes a dreaded challenge. It leads us to be stagnated, unproductive, average if not poor in social standing.

I was once asked about decision making, “Which is better, to make a quick decision or a long well-thought one?” My answer was that the question doesn’t make sense. The situation should tell us the mode that we will take, whether to decide at a speed of light or with the steps of a turtle.  But the baseline is we should make decisions.

DECISIONS. Allow me to look at it through two different lenses. Spiritual lense and Practical lense.

Spiritual. God gifted us with a rational mind and so He expects us to make decisions in life. I feel and would want to believe that it brings sadness to Him everytime we fail to make use of such a gift. A spiritual director once told me,  “Don’t fear to make decisions, you just need to recognize the will of God, then pray for strength and wisdom to help you make the right decision.”

Practical. Life is short. We do not want to spend it by just simply standing and dilly-dallying on things in life. It is a tragedy to spend our whole life just thinking and yet not coming up with decisions. Great things are not accomplished by just thinking, for, without actions, all remain as dreams. Lao Tzu said,  “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. In this case, MAKING A DECISION is the first step.
